The Ideal Death Show is coming to Bournemouth

The Ideal Death Show is taking place in Bournemouth on Saturday 15th September in the Highcliff Marriott Hotel.

The show will include an exhibition of funeral-related merchandise and services.

The event is open to the public. In the evening, there will be the 7th UK Good Funeral Awards.

We will be hosting death cafés in a yurt – a space where people can air their thoughts and feelings about grief, bereavement, mortality within a supportive group.

During the day there will be lectures from writers and people working within funeral world. These include:-

Kevin Toolis will talk about his book, My Father’s Wake, and why Irish wakes are such a powerful ritual in the face of death

Angie MacLachlan, an embalmer, will speak about her personal observations of 27 years of working in the field of end of life…and will take a look into the future

Ken West will be speaking about his pioneering work on natural burial, which celebrates a 25th anniversary this year

Anne Beckett-Allen will be speaking on how people involved in the funeral business can think about mental health in the workplace and their own self-care.

Lucy Talbot will describe her work in the Cross Bones Graveyard in Southwark

Isabel Russo will be speaking about emerging contemporary death rituals

Stephen Nimmo will speak about the challenges of repatriating soldiers from abroad

Frances Ciardini will detail A Day in the Life of an Anatomical Pathology Technologist

Richard Martin will speak about the environmental impact of scattering ashes

Annabel de Vetten from Conjurer’s Kitchen will be baking a special cake to mark the awards.

This is an event which started in Bournemouth in 2011 and is returning to the town in 2018.
